Customer Waiting Area

The north-west supports movement and short stays, which suits waiting customers. Seating should face the counters, with a clear view of token displays.

Cash Counters

Tellers ideally sit facing north or east. The cash drawer or cash box opens towards the north, the Kuber direction linked with wealth.

Vault and Strong Room

The south-west is the heaviest and most stable zone, so it suits the vault. The door of the safe opens towards the north or east.

Lockers

Locker rooms work best in the south, west or south-west. Locker units stand against heavy walls, with doors opening north or east.

Manager Cabin

The branch head is seated in the south-west, facing north or east, with a solid wall behind. Avoid seating under a beam or with the back to a door.

Staff Workstations

Desks face north or east wherever possible. Keep loan, operations and back-office teams away from the main customer path to reduce distraction.

Meeting Room

The north-west or west suits discussions and client meetings. Seat the senior person in the south-west corner of the room.

Pantry

The south-east is the fire zone and the natural place for a pantry or tea point. Avoid the north-east and the centre.

Washrooms

The west or north-west of west is preferred. Washrooms should never be placed in the north-east, south-west or centre of the branch.

Heavy Equipment

UPS, generators and electrical panels belong in the south-east. Servers and heavy storage suit the south or west. Keep the north and north-east light.

Colours

Light, neutral tones keep a bank looking professional. Soft greens and blues suit the north and east, earthy beige the south-west, and warm accents the south-east.
